Blitzing weeds and planting trees

Weed control and revegetation works are in full swing at Jaragun with over 1,000 native seedlings planted at multiple sites along Babinda Creek. These works are the first steps in our 12-month project to reduce stream bank erosion, improve water quality and help establish a wildlife corridor that links the Bellenden Ker Range to the coast. Thanks to Reef Assist funding, our team of Wanjuru Traditional Owners has hit hard at weed control (Candle Bush, Pond Apple, Glush Weed, Singapore Daisy, Guinea Grass) and then followed-up with diverse plantings of native species. The seedlings, which are sourced from a local seed bank, will restore rainforest and accelerate the recruitment and colonization of native plant species.
