New heights with Geoscience Australia

Geoscience Australia provided skills development to traditional owners while undertaking a drone survey as part of its remote and Indigenous engagement program. Fitted with Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) instrumentation, the drone captured elevation differences in high-level detail (500 points m2) across the site of Jaragun Wetland Systems’ 34Ha constructed wetland system. The establishment of baseline mapping will be critical for monitoring rehabilitation of the site post-construction, while also providing Geoscience Australia with a data set that will be used to validate its satellite products.

Geoscience Australia’s training complements the in-house training received by traditional owners to fly Jaragun’s drone that incorporated completion of CASA’s Remotely Piloted Aircraft Operator's Certificates.
