Jaragun partnered with Cairns and Far North Environment Centre (CAFNEC) as part of the MangroveWatch citizen science program to collect data on the habitat condition along 17Km of shoreline and riverbank from Russell Heads through the lower section of the Russell River. Jaragun staff received training as part of this baseline survey, enabling Jaragun to undertake independent monitoring long-term. A technical report will rate the health, biodiversity, density and overall condition of mangrove habitat, and identify banks exposed to erosion for future management.

ECOSYSTEMS
Preservation our way of life
We perform system repair to protect or improve the ecosystem services we depend on to maintain our social, cultural and economic well-being.
Our approach is to work with catchment processes by maintaining and improving an ecosystem's structural components and managing current and emerging threats to their functioning.
Our activities involve a high level of integration with other initiatives to improve overall outcomes for the environment, which are enhanced through revegetation with native plant species, control of pest species and planning for climate change.
