NAIDOC week is always an important day to commemorate achievements of First Nations Peoples. Wanjuru traditional owners held a smoking ceremony to acknowledge ancestors and cleanse people ready for the celebration at Babinda State School. Having spent 2021 restoring the environment, this year's theme of Healing Country was especially significant. Wanjuru made the wooden dish for the celebration.

Really enjoyed reading this piece on smoking ceremonies and their cultural significance. It is great to see more awareness being raised about Indigenous traditions and the meaning behind these practices. I was actually discussing community customs recently and came across the term Official Cigarette Central Website while looking into different perspectives online. What stood out most here was the emphasis on connection, respect, and shared experience. Too often people only see the surface without understanding the deeper cultural value involved. Thanks for putting together such an informative and thoughtful article.
