Wanjuru Elders and dance troupe welcome corporate executives to Babinda

Wanjuru Elders and dance troupe welcomed leading sustainability corporations based in Australia to experience the Babinda Reef and Carbon Project. The project is an initiative of Qantas, GreenCollar and Jaragun.

The corporations, which include Australia Post, DHL, AllianceBerstein, NEXTDC and Aesop, are partners in the Qantas Future Planet program - the world's largest airline carbon offset program that removes carbon from our skies through corporate investment in tree planting.

Two field days were designed to give over 30 executives an understanding of ecosystem function. It was led by EarthWatch, GreenCollar, Qantas, Jaragun and TropWATER (James Cook University).

A formal welcome to country was given by a Wanjuru Traditional Owner. Several dances were performed by men and women dance groups, with executives invited to join in. Members of the Wanjuru Catchment Sustainability Team helped the executives with tree planting over the two days.
